Derailed by Mary Keliikoa is a very good mystery novel I read in the recent times. The author succeeded in capturing my complete attention to the book from the start till the end.
Kelly Pruett is a private investigator who inherited the PI business from her father. When Georgette comes knocking on Kelly’s door requesting her to investigate the death of her daughter Brooke, Kelly immediately accepts the case in order to honor her father’s last wish.
Brooke is said to be hit by the local train and the case is closed by the police. Kelly starts her investigation from scratch basing on Georgette’s suspicions. Apart from the PI life, Kelly is grieving her father’s death, coping from the divorce and taking care of her deaf daughter.
Many surprising truths uncover during the investigation. Brooke happens to be an entirely different person from what her parents assumed her to be. The story is about the path Kelly takes in spite of all odds and how she solves the mystery. Kelly never gives up though she is threatened and attacked by the killer.
I must applaud the author for building such a strong and intense female protagonist. Kelly is the HERO of this novel. I like Kelly’s determination, courage and intelligence. This book is a wonderful read for any mystery lovers.
I received this book from the publisher for an honest review.
Charleston Green by Stephanie Alexander is one of the wonderful books I read in the recent times. I can only imagine how beautiful this new color Charleston Green is after reading this book.
Tipsy Collins is a beautiful soul, an artist and strong and independent at heart. Tipsy arrives at her new home with her three kids to live at a new house after going through a rough divorce. She manages her work at her best friend’s art gallery, paints and also takes care of her kids all by herself.
Tipsy gets to put her supernatural skill to use to help two new ghost friends that she found at the new house. Jane and Henry who have been stuck at that home for a long time find answers to the questions that have been hanging between them since their deaths.
The climax twist was unexpected. The pace is excellent. The story is witty, lovely, romantic and awesome. I must admit this is the funniest ghost story, didn’t terrify me at all and made me think I might need a ghost friend for myself.
I don’t want to mention Tipsy’s ex-husband Ayers whom I thoroughly hated while reading the story. I also liked how the author used the divorce law in North Carolina and certain other states to explain the troubles faced by many women who tolerate emotional and physical abuse. I’m sure this story definitely gives hope to many a women to stay strong and do what their heart encourages them to do. Just stand up for yourselves! Author has smartly put the marital issues from a century ago and the present day in one story and takes the reader on a wonderful fictional ride.
I received the copy of Charleston Green from NetGalley for an honest review. Thank you BooksGoSocial for sharing the copy with me. The book is going to be published on 14th of April, 2020. The Playboy Next Door by Sandra A. Sigfusson is a romantic comedy that will refresh the reader’s mind. This is the first book I’m reading from the author and I must say she is very engaging. I received this book in exchange for a honest review.
Brandon and Rachel who share a duplex house meet for the first time in a very strange situation. This leads Rachel to think that Brandon is extremely cocky because of his model-like body and looks. Brandon falls for Rachel almost immediately.
Their relationship doesn’t cross the friendship stature initially because of Brandon’s playboy nature and Rachel’s relationship with her boyfriend Kurt. But when two people are destined to be together, nothing can stop them from falling hard and fast in love. The story is about the series of events that bring Brandon and Rachel together. And let me mention Brigit and Barkley the two pet dogs of Brandon and Rachel who are in love with each other, too just like their owners.
It’s a very easy read. There are some hot erotic scenes which will make your day. So, if you are in for an entertaining book, go for this one.
The Girl Who Cheated Death by Alan Baker is a thriller which is very intriguing. The story is about a happy teenager, Alexandra who suddenly loses her family in an accident while she the lone survivor.
Alex starts questioning her own sanity when she sees a strange figure who goes around capturing souls from dying people. Nobody believes her story but finally she finds her friend Carl and Dr. Khan on her side. The frequent encounters from the Angel of Death Azrael scare her to death. Alex travels back in time when she accidentally changes an event in future. Eventually, she figures the reason behind the visits of Azrael.
Alex decides to bring her family back by changing an event in future. The story is a little complicated. The theory of Newcomb’s paradox is applied in the story.
I enjoyed the story. I received the book’s free copy in return for a review from #NetGalley. Thanks to #BooksGoSocial for sharing this book with me. The story, the female lead, the paranormal side and the suspense are a huge plus to this story.
